Bristol Bay Red King Crab
Alaska's Bristol Bay red king crab season is the state's largest & most lucrative king crab fishery. Popularized by Discovery's "Deadliest Catch" TV series, this once little-known crab fishing grounds has become a household name.
Red king crab are the most flavorful of the 3 commercially-harvested types in Alaska. Every fall, Alaska's crab fishing fleet heads north into the turbulent waters of the Bering Sea, in the hunt for these succulent, jumbo-sized king crabs. The Bristol Bay season traditionally opens on October 15th, and shortly thereafter, fresh red king crab begins reaching high-end restaurants and discerning crab connoisseurs all around the world.
Much of Alaska's Bristol Bay king crab is exported to Japan, where buyers pay top-dollar for the "crown jewel" of Alaska's king crab fisheries.
