Our medium Spot shrimp are packaged in 2 lb. boxes and contain 30-40 shrimp per pound. They are headless, uncooked, and flash-frozen at sea to ensure the highest quality.
Frozen Spot shrimp can be stored in your freezer for several months. Spot shrimp can be thawed under refrigeration about 12 hours before preparation. The vacuum-sealed packages can also be ran under cold water to speed this up considerably.
One pound of shrimp would be good for 2 to 3 people if serving with other entrée additions. If serving as a "shrimp feast" then about twice this amount would suffice.
Shrimp are an extremely good source of protein, and are very low in fat & calories, making them a healthy choice of food. Although shrimp have a high cholesterol content, they are low in saturated fat. Shrimp contain a good amount of omega-3 fatty acids that help prevent against heart disease, circulatory diseases and many other types of illnesses. Spot shrimp are commercially harvested from October through January using traps that are dropped to the ocean's bottom. Spot shrimp are found in the Pacific Ocean from Alaska to California.
